The 10th edition

The 10th edition is not only about raising as much money as possible for the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), but also about celebrating IJmuiden's 150th anniversary. It will be a very special anniversary edition with the VissenRun on Saturday and the walking event on Sunday, taking you past many of IJmuiden's iconic buildings.

WALK ▶

RUN

On Saturday, May 30th, we're going to do something we've never done before. We're organizing a performance run: the VissenRun. And of course, we won't be doing it alone. We've enlisted some help of Athletics club Suomi and Sportsupport. That Saturday, we're reviving the old Pierloop with distances of 2.7 km, 8.2 km, and 15 km.

WALK

In 2026, the walking event will be moved to Sunday once again, especially for "150 Years of IJmuiden." New for this edition are a toddler walk (250 meters) and a preschool walk (1000 meters). In addition, for some distances, there's the option to take the Koninging Emma tour boat from De Kop van de Haven to visit Forteiland. The various routes will also take participants past iconic IJmuiden buildings. This makes the 10th edition even more special. So make sure you're there.

The event

The Stichting wandelevenement Vissenloop is organizes the Vissenloop yearly. The foundation has set itself the goal of raising money for KWF Kankerbestrijding (Dutch Cancer Society) by organizing this walking event in and around IJmuiden.

150 years IJmuiden

IJmuiden’s origins date back to 1876 when the North Sea Canal was opened. The IJ and Wijkermeer were reclaimed for this purpose. Many canal workers continued to live here and were the first inhabitants. The new location was baptized by King Willem III, IJmuiden – mouth of the IJ. The place developed rapidly through fishing and shipping. You will encounter many memories along the way.

In addition to the walking tour, various activities are organized. For example, there is a lottery every year and of course you can commemorate a loved one by providing an oyster or scallop shell with his or her name.
